LET’S PARTICIPATE IN THE LëtzHBM SURVEY

LëtzHBM – What is it, and why does it matter to me?

This is a survey carried out with both children and adults to measure exposure to chemical substances across Europe. Since these chemicals may pose a risk to health, it is important to assess exposure levels in the population. This helps to develop appropriate policies to better protect public health.

In Luxembourg, the survey focuses on two age groups:
– Children aged 6 to 11 years,
– Adults aged 18 to 39 years.

The survey is funded by the Ministry of Health and Social Security of Luxembourg and the European Commission, and is being conducted in Luxembourg by the Department of Health Protection at the LNS.

What does my participation involve?

If you agree to take part, a team from the LNS will visit your home to collect samples of air, dust, and water. These samples will help us determine which substances you may be exposed to in your home environment. You will receive a personalised report with the results of these environmental measurements.

We also need to assess how much of these substances actually enter your body. For this reason, during the same visit, our nurses will collect samples of urine, blood, and hair. You will receive an individual report only if the values measured in your biological samples represent a medical concern. In such cases, we will ensure appropriate medical follow-up for you and/or your child.

All individual results will be pseudonymised and combined to create a broader picture of chemical exposure in the Luxembourgish population, which will also be compared at the European level.

As a thank you for completing the full survey, you will receive a gift voucher:
– 30 € for children,
– 50 € for each adult participant.

If you would like to take part in the LëtzHBM survey, please complete the questionnaire by clicking here.

We will then contact you to confirm that you are included in the survey. We will find with you a date that is convenient for you on which our team comes to your home and does all the measurements. We will discuss the practical arrangements directly with you. In case we cannot include you in the survey, we also contact you to explain why not. By filling in the questions, you automatically agree to your personal data being processed.
