Laboratoire national de santé (a Luxembourg public institution) is recruiting an Experienced Laboratory Technician in Pesticides (M/F)

 

For the Unit ‘Surveillance Alimentaire’ of the Department Health Protection in a full time position (40h/week) with a permanent contract starting at the earliest convenience.

 

About the LNS

 

The Luxembourg National Health Laboratory, “Laboratoire national de santé” (LNS) is a public institution operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. It is organised as a multidisciplinary institute, which along with an administrative department, includes six scientific departments related to the fields of morphological and molecular pathology, genetics, medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection.

 

The LNS has new premises with modern, top-notch infrastructure to respond to the requirements and most recent developments in medical and analytical sciences. The purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases, to ensure the role of a national control and reference laboratory and to provide medico-legal services.

 

The LNS contributes to the development, harmonisation and promotion of laboratory methods in projects in cooperation with other laboratories and develops research and teaching activities in collaboration with ad hoc partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

 

The Unit ‘Surveillance Alimentaire’ is part of the Department Health Protection and consists of a multidisciplinary team with strong expertise in analytical chemistry, molecular biology and food microbiology. The Unit ‘Surveillance Alimentaire’ is ISO 17 025 accredited and hosts 12 National Reference Laboratories (NRLs) in food control.

 

In view of expanding activities for the NRL Mycotoxines and Plant Toxines, following the European Legislation, the Unit ‘Surveillance Alimentaire’ is now looking for an experienced and enthusiastic laboratory technician to strengthen further the existing team.

 

About the position

 

As laboratory technician, you will help in analysing food and feed samples for mycotoxins and other contaminants and additives. Therefore, your duties will include:

 

  • Prepare food and feed samples for chemical, chromatography-based analyses, using SPE, immuno-affinity chromatography, ASE, etc.
  • Analyse mycotoxins, contaminants and additives using HPLC-DAD, HPLC-FLD and UPLC-MS/MS
  • Help implement and validate new analytical methods in order to accredit them according to the standard ISO 17025
  • Take part in the quality control activities of the laboratory (calibrations, metrology, document management, etc.)
  • Participate in the daily maintenance and troubleshooting of the analytical instruments (HPLC-FLD, UPLC-MS/MS, etc.)
  • Participate in the management of the stock of reference materials, solvents, etc.
  • Write short validation reports

Profile

 

  • A bachelor of science (BAC +3) in chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a related field, with strong experiences in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry
  • Polyvalence on other analytical techniques (e.g. GC, ELISA) will be considered as an asset
  • Good knowledge of the standard ISO 17025
  • Excellent organisation skills, team player, flexibility
  • High degree of work autonomy
  • Good software skills (Microsoft office, OpenLab, Empower, Chemstation, Masslynx, Masshunter, etc.)
  • Fluency in French and English (oral and written). Knowledge of German and Luxembourgish will be considered as an asset.
