Experienced laboratory technician (m/f) Ref° 47900

Type of contract: Full-time and undetermined duration contract (CDI)

The molecular genetic unit of the National Center of Genetics (NCG) is seeking to hire an experienced laboratory technician for a permanent position to strengthen the existing team performing molecular genetic diagnostic test in the context of genetic diseases and molecular oncology.

About the Laboratoire national de santé

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. Organised as a multidisciplinary institute and supported by a professional services team, the LNS includes four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection, in addition to hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange, with state of the art, modern infrastructure in line with recent developments in medical sciences. Its objective is to develop scientific and analytical expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases. Its ultimate mission is to serve patients and citizens and offer excellence in health care.

About NCG

The National Center of Genetics (NCG) at the LNS is responsible for all aspects of human genetics related health care in Luxembourg. Our main objective is to provide high-level health care in the field of human genetics to the Luxembourgish population and to advance genomic medicine in the country. The NCG is a major stakeholder of two national public health programs: the Plan National Maladie Rare and the Plan National Cancer. The NCG also hosts the LuxGen Genome Center with a state-of-the-art sequencing platform and performs collaborative patient-oriented translational research focused on rare diseases and cancer. We engage in training activities, in particular of medical students within the bachelor program at the University of Luxembourg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out molecular genetic tests for inherited disorders (genetic diseases) and acquired disorders (cancer)
  • Participate in the daily activities of the laboratory and administrative tasks
  • Participate in the optimization of technical protocols, operating procedures and assay automation
  • Participate in the validation of novel diagnostic methods
  • Participation in the development and maintenance of a quality system based on ISO 15189.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSc level qualification (BAC+3) as a medical laboratory technician
  • Ideally the candidate will have the “Autorisation d’excercer de Laborantin” in Luxembourg. If not, he must be eligible to obtain it.
  • Previous working experience in a diagnostic molecular genetic setting is desirable
  • Hands on experience in molecular biology techniques
  • Experience in Next Generation Sequencing based applications
  • Proficiency with a LIMS system
  • Fluent in English. Working proficiency in either French or German. Luxemburgish is an asset.
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Flexibility and sense of priorities and duty in the context of patient care
