The “Laboratoire National de Santé” (Institut public au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg) is recruiting for the national center of genetics (NGS) an  experienced molecular biologist / geneticist (m/f) – Ref 800 for a full time position (40h/week) with a 1 year temporary contract with a potential of permanent contract after 1 year .

About the Laboratoire National de Santé (LNS)

The “Laboratoire National de Santé” (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the ministry of Health in Luxembourg. Organised as a multidisciplinary institute and supported by a professional services team, the LNS includes four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection, in addition to hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics.

The LNS has its new premises in Dudelange, with state of the art, modern infrastructure in line with recent developments in medical sciences.

Its objective is to develop scientific and analytical expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases. Its ultimate mission is to serve patients and citizens and offer excellence in health care.

In the context of the replacement of a maternity leave, the molecular genetic unit of the national center of genetics (NCG) is seeking to hire an experienced molecular biologist / geneticist to strengthen the existing team performing molecular genetic diagnostic tests in the context of genetic diseases and molecular oncology.   The position is initially for one year starting November 1st 2021. If the collaboration is successful, a permanent position can be offered at the end of the temporary contract.

Profile:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated partner with an interest in developing and using state-of-the-art molecular techniques to improve patient care.

The scientist will participate in establishing, validating and coordinating next generation sequencing based assays and bioinformatic analysis of these assays with the aim of writing diagnostic genetic reports. The scientist will also participate in ongoing research and collaborative projects and will be offered the opportunity to apply for funding for research projects.

Responsabilities:

  • Participate in the drafting of clinical molecular genetic reports
  • Participate in the development of research projects and applying scientific knowledge in expanding the diagnostic and research portfolio of the NCG
  • Optimizing technical protocols, operating procedures and assay automation
  • Optimizing existing methods and developing new ones
  • Active Participation in the development and maintenance of a quality system based on (ISO 15189)
  • Participating in external quality control trials
  • Training of the technicians and supervision of students

This list of tasks should not be considered exhaustive.  Missions may vary depending on the specific needs of the Department.

Key qualification and skills :

  • Minimum MSc or equivalent degree in Biology, preferentially in Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics or similar. A relevant PhD is an asset.
  • Previous working experience in a diagnostic molecular genetic setting is desirable
  • Hands on experience in analysis of high throughput data for:
    • Comprehensive molecular oncology and molecular pathology  and /or
    •  Genetic Diseases (WES and WGS data analysis)
  • Experience in variant interpretation
  • Proficiency with a LIMS system
  • A keen interest for- and hands on experience with- bioinformatic tools and pipelines and experience of working with OMICSs datasets is mandatory.
  • Fluent in English. Working proficiency in either French or German. Luxemburgish is an asset.
