Head of Cytogenetics (m/f) Ref° 304

Type of contract: Full-time and undetermined duration contract (CDI)

The National Center of Genetics (NCG) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Cytogenetics for a permanent full-time position. As the head of cytogenetics, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the unit, including laboratory operations, research and development, and staff management and you will also take part in research and training activities of the center.

 

About the Laboratoire national de santé

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. Organised as a multidisciplinary institute and supported by a professional services team, the LNS includes four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection, in addition to hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange, with state of the art, modern infrastructure in line with recent developments in medical sciences. Its objective is to develop scientific and analytical expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases. Its ultimate mission is to serve patients and citizens and offer excellence in health care.

 

About NCG

The National Center of Genetics (NCG) at the LNS is responsible for all aspects of human genetics related health care in Luxembourg. Our main objective is to provide high-level health care in the field of human genetics to the Luxembourgish population and to advance genomic medicine in the country. The NCG is a major stakeholder of two national public health programs: the Plan National Maladie Rare and the Plan National Cancer. The NCG also hosts the LuxGen Genome Center with a state-of-the-art sequencing platform and performs collaborative patient-oriented translational research focused on rare diseases and cancer. We engage in training activities, in particular of medical students within the bachelor program at the University of Luxembourg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage a team of cytogenetic technologists and scientists
  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the cytogenetics laboratory
  • Develop, validate, and implement new procedures and techniques
  • Interpret and report genetic results to physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest developments and advancements in the field
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Participate in the budget planning and management for the NCG
  • Actively participate in the education and training of medical students, residents and colleagues
  • Participate in translational research activities of the Center
  • Closely collaborate with the other units of the NCG (Clinical Genetics, Molecular Genetics, and Hemato-Oncogenetics) and with external partners, in particular medical professionals to provide comprehensive patient care and state-of-the art diagnostics
  • Represent the NCG in internal and external meetings and conferences as well as National Plans and working groups (e.g. Plan national maladies rare)

 

Qualifications:

 

  • An MD board certified in medical genetics/cytogenetics, or equivalent
  • Eligible to obtain a license to practice in Luxembourg (autorisation d’excercer de médecin) (http://www.sante.public.lu/fr/formulaires/professions/autorisation-exercer-profession-sante/index.html)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a cytogenetics laboratory (prenatal and postnatal), including at least 2 years of leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of (molecular) cytogenetic techniques including karyotyping, FISH, and array CGH as well as molecular techniques including NGS. Experience in NIPT would be an asset.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, including accreditation according to ISO 15189
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in laboratory informatics systems
  • Language: fluent in French or German as well as working proficiency in English. Luxembourgish is an asset.
