Laboratory technician (m/f) Ref°229

Type of contract: Full-time and undetermined duration contract (CDI)

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician (m/f), for a permanent contract (40h/ week), starting date in December 2024, for our Forensic Medicine Department, Analytical Chemistry Service.

 

ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTE

 

The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six diagnostic departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.

The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.

In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application: medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.

About the service

The Analytical Chemistry Service (SCAN) at LNS is specialized in:

– identification and dosage of illicit drugs,

– control of pharmaceutical products,

– detection of drugs and pharmaceuticals in water and wastewater,

– the detection of fire accelerants following fires,

– chemical characterization of cannabis and cannabis-derived products.

SCAN works closely with the justice system, the Ministry of Health and the Directorate of Health. It is ISO 17025 accredited for the dosage of certain drugs and certified for the control of medicines. It plays an active role at both national and European level in harm reduction projects and in the collection of data on the use of illict drugs. SCAN is a member of the European Network of Drug Control Laboratories (GEON).

SCAN is currently setting up a laboratory specialized in the detection of highly toxic products for CBRN analysis requests, and will continue to accredit analyses linked to the detection and dosage of narcotics and drugs.

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the supervision and guidance of the department’s technical managers.
  • Carry out qualitative and/or quantitative analyses of drugs and pharmaceuticals in water and
  • Participate in method validation in accordance with quality system requirements.
  • Participate in the drafting and/or updating of quality system documents.
  • Participate in inventory management and purchasing of reagents and consumables.
  • Participate in the administrative task of the service.

This list of tasks should not be considered exhaustive. Tasks may vary and evolve according to the specific needs of the service.

Profile:

  • Qualification as a laboratory technician (minimum DUT Chemistry, BTS Analytical Chemistry or other).
  • Good working knowledge of analytical techniques, particularly chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS, LC/MSMS, LC/QToF, HPLC/UV) and infrared (IR).
  • Good knowledge of standard Microsoft Office software.
  • Good knowledge of ISO 17025, experience of working in an accredited laboratory is an asset.
  • Organizational and teamwork skills, ability to work independently.
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of French, German and Luxembourgish is an asset.
