Type of contract: Full-time and undetermined duration contract (CDI)

The Laboratoire national de santé (Public Institution) is recruiting a full-time specialist physician in pathology (m/f) on a permanent basis to meet the needs of the anatomical pathology department of the National Center of Pathology.

 

About the Laboratoire national de santé

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security in Luxembourg. As a multidisciplinary institute, it is made up of four diagnostic departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection. It also houses two national centers, one in the field of Pathology and the other in the field of Genetics. All activities are supported by support services forming the administrative and financial department.

The mission of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases and to ensure the role of a national control or reference laboratory as well as to carry out forensic tasks. The institution also contributes to the development, harmonization and promotion of technical laboratory methods in close collaboration with local and international analytical laboratories. Within the scope of its responsibilities, the LNS is also leading research and teaching activities in collaboration with partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

With its modern infrastructure in line with the recent evolution of medical and analytical sciences, the LNS is an ambitious laboratory with innovative projects that increase its expertise in public health.

 

Responsibilities:

Diagnostic and Analytical Tasks:

  • Analyze and interpret pathology cases to provide accurate diagnoses, including prognostic and theranostic information when necessary.
  • Perform macroscopic examinations of biopsies and surgical specimens, either independently or in collaboration with macroscopists.
  • Provide histological and/or cytological diagnoses, including intraoperative frozen sections and, when applicable, scientific or medical autopsies within your sub-specialization.

Collaborative and Educational Tasks:

  • Participate in internal and external discussions of clinico-pathological cases, including consultations with clinicians and providing second opinions.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary tumor boards, organ-specific boards, molecular boards, and scientific events.
  • Contribute to the training of laboratory technicians.
  • Actively participate in national and international working groups and scientific societies relevant to your specialization.

Quality and Administrative Tasks:

  • Implement the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO EN 15189 standards.
  • Participate in internal and external quality control trials and validate internal quality controls (IQC).
  • Contribute to the standardization of macroscopic and microscopic protocols and pathological reports following international guidelines.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training.

Profile

Education and Qualifications:

  • Medical degree with a specialization in pathology.
  • Authorization to practice as a pathologist in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, including:
    • Affiliation with the Collège Médical
    • Possession of a medical code issued by the Caisse Nationale de Santé (CNS)
  • Recognition as a laboratory responsible (provided by the Ministry of Health of Luxembourg).

Experience:

  • At least two years of multidisciplinary experience in pathological diagnosis.
  • Our current recruitment is specifically focused on Gynecological and Breast Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology, Dermatopathology, Neuropathology, Fetopathology, Molecular Pathology, and Hematopathology.

Language Proficiency:

  • Proficiency in one of the following languages: French, German, or Luxembourgish is required.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) at a business proficiency level is also required.
