About LNS

The “Laboratoire national de santé” (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the ministry of Health in Luxembourg. Organised as a multidisciplinary institute and supported by a professional services team, the LNS includes four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection, in addition to hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics.

The LNS has its new premises in Dudelange, with state of the art, modern infrastructure in line with recent developments in medical sciences.

Its objective is to develop scientific and analytical expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases. Its ultimate mission is to serve patients and citizens and offer excellence in health care.

The National Center of Genetics (NCG) is responsible for all aspects of human genetic related health care of Luxembourg. In order to meet the challenges ahead, we are looking for committed employees with a high level of expertise and innovative ideas. We are equipped with a state-of-the-art laboratory, including an Illumina platform for next-generation sequencing. We offer the unique possibility to be involved in Luxembourg`s national strategy to develop clinical genetics, to expand clinical and diagnostic activities, to promote research activities, and to take part in national and international networks and programs such as the “Plan national maladies rares 2018-2022”.

About the mission

The Molecular biologist will actively participate in molecular genetic diagnostics, implementation and set up of novel workflows and tests, and research projects, with a focus on next-generation sequencing and other molecular biology techniques.

 

Main activities

 

  • Write molecular genetic reports for patients diagnostics
  • Implement and set up workflows and analytical capacities for WES, WGS and large panel sequencing (clinical exome, clinical genome, hereditary cancer, etc)
  • Develop and implement new molecular genetic tests with clinical relevance
  • Participate in molecular and multidisciplinary boards for clinical cases
  • Write SOPs and train laboratory staff
  • Contribute to the accreditation of the laboratory
  • Manage to the day to day operations of the laboratory in next-generation sequencing and other molecular biology techniques
  • Participate in the training of students (Master or PhD level) and coach them
  • Contribute to research projects and write grant applications with the possibility to conduct own research projects
  • Present research findings in manuscripts, conferences and to potential partners

 

Desired profile

 

  • PhD in Biology or Biological Sciences, ideally Molecular Biology
  • Experience in molecular genetic diagnostics in the context of hereditary diseases and/or non-hereditary diseases (cancer), including variant interpretation and reporting
  • Experience in accreditation according to ISO15189 is an advantage
  • Experience in project-management and managing a team of laboratory technicians
  • Recognition as Clinical Laboratory Geneticist or equivalent (e.g. Fachhumangenetiker) in an EU country would be an advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of bioinformatic tools used for NGS data analysis in a clinical context (variant calling, filtering, prioritization and annotation, copy number analysis, fusion gene detection)
  • Good IT knowledge (Windows / Linux); coding skills (Python, Java, bash) welcome
  • Ability to work autonomously and to prioritize the most important projects
  • Working proficiency in English, ideally combined with working proficiency in either French or German. Luxemburgish is an asset.
