Le Laboratoire national de santé est un établissement public sous la tutelle du Ministère de la Santé à Luxembourg. Organisé en institut pluridisciplinaire et supporté par un département administratif, le LNS compte quatre départements scientifiques dans les domaines de la biologie médicale, de la microbiologie, de la médecine médico-légale et de la protection de la santé, en plus d’accueillir le Centre national de pathologie (National Center of Pathology) et le Centre national de génétique (National Center of Genetics).

Le LNS occupe de nouveaux locaux à Dudelange dont l’infrastructure moderne est en conformité avec l’évolution récente des sciences médicales.

Le LNS a pour but de développer son expertise scientifique et analytique liée à la prévention, au diagnostic et au suivi des maladies humaines. Sa vocation ultime est de se mettre au service des patients et des citoyens pour leur offrir un accompagnement d’excellence.

The post

The Technical Officer provides a high level of technical and operational support to the development of new techniques in Microbiology. The technical officer will work under the general supervision of the head of the department. The candidate will participate in the department projects to widening the testing manual and co-ordinate innovative projects in the field of Virology. You will also participate in the ongoing research and international collaborative projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and organise the required experiments for the validation of new techniques in the department of microbiology.
  • Undertake general laboratory duties such as preparing solutions, materials and equipment as per protocol drafted by the head of department.
  • Liaise with other units to identify the need for new techniques and offer the necessary training for the implementation
  • Carry out minor maintenance on equipment and ensure all equipment faults are repaired with minimum down-time.
  • Assist other technical staff as required, and undertake other assigned duties.
  • Active Participation in the development and maintenance of the quality system based on (ISO 15189)

The above list is not exhaustive and further tasks could be added according to the needs of the department.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A master degree in molecular biology or experience as a laboratory technician or equivalent laboratory and/or field experience;
  • Good Laboratory skills in Molecular biology techniques including PCR and gel electrophoresis, with a basic background in sequencing analysis
  • Demonstrated well-developed technical skills and problem-solving capability to troubleshoot experimental procedures
  • Understanding of the basics of project management and potential to lead collaborative projects nationally and internationally.
  • Good organizational skills including time management and an ability to prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and to contribute to the organisational development of the department.

Desirable

  • Un Intérêt marqué pour la microbiologie et tout particulièrement pour la Virologie est nécessaire
  • Des connaissances en biologie moléculaire (PCR real-time, séquençage), seraient un atout
  • Une bonne connaissance des logiciels Microsoft Office sera appréciée
  • Pratique courante du français et bon niveau d’anglais.
