Technical Responsible / Quality Referent (PhD Chemistry or Biochemistry) (m/f)

Job description:

As a scientist, you will expand the metal analysis activities inside the Unit ‘Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring (SUBI)’. Therefore, you will

• Optimize existing methods and develop new methods for the analyses of metals and nanomaterials in samples collected for the indoor environment and for human biomonitoring (using ICP-MS/MS, LC-ICP-MS, etc.);
• Validate methods according to the quality system;
• Supervise the analytical work in the laboratory;
• Participate in the daily maintenances and problem solving related to the analytical instruments (ICP-MS/MS and LC-ICP-MS, etc);
• Participate actively in the management of the Unit;
• Participate in the national and international networking and research projects of the Unit.

As quality referent, you assist in the quality system and accreditation in the Department Health Protection, and you support more intensively the Unit ‘Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring (SUBI)’:

• You build up the quality system for the new version ISO 17 025 for the environmental, occupational and human biomonitoring analyses;
• You build up the quality system for the supplementary accreditation ISO 15 189 for the human biomonitoring analyses, and also realize the accreditation of additional parameters in this field;
• You guide the team members to these new accreditation norms and, together with the Unit head, you are responsible for the implementation of the norms by the team members;
• You represent the Department in the inter-departmental meetings organised by LNS Central Quality (Direction) and follow-up the audits and the networking with the different quality actors.

Job specific skills:

• A PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field, with specialization in ICP-MS and LC-ICP-MS for the analysis of metals and nanomaterial in environmental and human biological samples;
• Knowledge of other analytical techniques (HPLC, GC and MS/MS) is considered an asset;
• Experience of more than 5 years, including track record, in the method development of metals and nanomaterials in a chemical laboratory, preferentially in the field of environmental and occupational health;
• Experience of more than 3 years in an accredited chemical laboratory, including track record of implementation and/or setting-up of accreditation/quality processes;
• Good knowledge of the ISO 17025 and 15189;
• A perfect fluency in English and French (oral and written). Working proficiency in Luxembourgish and/or German is considered as an advantage.
