Présentation de Lynn

At the LNS, every diagnosis relies on the meticulous work of a team of professionals with complementary expertise. Today, we shine a spotlight on Lynn, a laboratory technician since 2017, who specialises in preparing histological slides.

A Precision Role at the Heart of Diagnosis

Lynn plays a crucial role in the diagnostic process: preparing tissue slides that will later be examined under the microscope by pathologists. These slides are vital in detecting diseases such as cancer, revealing cellular structures through specific staining techniques.

Before reaching the hands of the pathologists, each sample undergoes a lengthy process. After being fixed, dehydrated, and embedded in paraffin, the tissue is cut into ultra-thin sections—just 2 to 3 microns thick—using a microtome. These slices are then stained, most commonly with the H&E (Hematoxylin & Eosin) technique, which highlights tissue structures. Additional special stains may also be used to detect pathogens such as Helicobacter pylori or certain fungal infections.

When Technical Skill Meets Technology

Since 2024, the department has been equipped with a fully automated microtome—a cutting-edge device that ensures consistent sectioning and streamlines the workflow. Lynn, who received specialised training on the equipment, now serves as the team’s go-to expert. Her knowledge helps to combine precision, efficiency, and innovation in a field where the quality of sample preparation is absolutely critical.

Human Commitment at the Heart of the Job

Behind every slide lies a patient, a wait, a life. This deeply human dimension is what drives Lynn in her daily work. Though often behind the scenes, her role is a key part of the diagnostic puzzle. “To me, behind each slide is a person waiting for answers.” This sense of responsibility gives true meaning to her professional commitment.

Behind every slide is a patient, an expectation, a life. It is this deeply human dimension that drives Lynn every day.
