The Laboratoire national de santé (Luxembourg public institution) is looking for a  Department coordinator (m/f) Ref°315  for the department of Microbiology  in a full time position (40h/week) with a permanent contract.

About the Laboratoire national de santé

The “Laboratoire national de santé” (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. LNS is organized as a multidisciplinary institute and supported by a professional services team, the LNS includes four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, and health protection, in addition to hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS is based at Dudelange, with state of the art, modern infrastructure in line with recent developments in medical sciences.

The department of microbiology offers reference laboratory activities in partnership with various public and private laboratories in the country. The department is nominated as National Reference Laboratory for Acute Respiratory Infections. Our team works closely together with the Ministry of Health, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and the World Health Organisation (WHO) within its capacity as public health Microbiology hub.

Job Description

The department coordinator will ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory services. The appointee is responsible for supporting the ongoing technical projects within our department in collaboration with the heads of service to ensure the delivery of projects with efficiency and quality within budget. The department coordinator also acts as a point of liaison between the head of the department and different LNS support services. The appointee will support the expanding project portfolio of the Department of Microbiology and the introduction of performance indicators and risk management. Another key part of this mission constitutes ensuring the technical workflow process management of the laboratory operation.

Essential

  • Experience in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory setting
  • Experience in working in an accredited laboratory (ISO 15189)
  • Experience in operational support and troubleshooting of automated instrumentation
  • Understanding of molecular Microbiology and ability to validate methods and issue reports
  • Rigor, motivation, creativity and originality, project proposal writing skills, conciseness, sense of priority
  • Languages skills: excellent command of English and French, additional knowledge of German and/or Luxembourgish would be considered an asset
  • Able to effectively convey information to staff at all levels in written, and verbal formats
  • Demonstrate good time management with the ability to carry out tasks methodically including those requiring manual dexterity
  • To be able to work unsupervised and experience supervising others
  • Flexible approach and attitude to work with the ability to integrate and work in a team
  • Ability to analyze and interpret microbiological testing information

Desirable

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in project coordination
  • Strong and proactive monitoring of the assigned tasks and awareness of Key performance indicators
  • Experience in change management and strategic planning
  • Involvement in digital transformation projects in the laboratory setting

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with project leads and contribute to administrative and logistics of the various Laboratory activities
  • Gain a deep understanding of the strategic direction of the department of Microbiology diagnostic services
  • Provide key support and initiative to the department’s involvement in European and international diagnostic activities
  • Provide comprehensive data analysis and creation of department dashboard and setting up key performance indicators
  • Partner with the LNS support services (e.g. IT and Metrology) to ensure the delivery of excellent laboratory services and liaison with national and international partners
  • Implement policies and procedures as related to a specific area
  • Coordinate on-site training for new and existing staff members
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of laboratory operations
  • Lead the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints in collaboration with the department’s Quality officer
  • Ensure supplies are available as required for lab sessions
  • Recommend measures to improve testing procedures, use of equipment, and needs for new equipment
  • Monitor, analyze, and justifies expense and revenue within departments
  • As a member of the Department Operational Team, to take part in management review meetings and the identification and implementation of ongoing quality improvements
  • Maintain continual professional development and be aware of relevant developments
  • Contribute to the routine preparation and quality control testing of EQA samples. Ensure that relevant documentation is always followed
  • In collaboration with the LNS safety officer,  take delegated responsibility per LNS policies and procedures
