We are currently seeking a Financial Controller for Scientific Projects (Ref°650) to join our finance service on a full-time basis for a 12-month fixed-term contract.

ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTÉ

The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.

The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.

In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application: medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.

RESPONSABILITIES

The Financial Controller scientific projects serves as the primary financial partner for scientific department’s in their interactions with financial backers, overseeing the process from project submission to final reporting to ensure full fund collection. They also play a crucial role in translating financial data for non-financial stakeholders

  • Project Budgeting: Collaborate with scientists to set up and manage project budgets.
  • Financial Monitoring: Manage the financial reporting for a range of research projects, ensuring compliance with budgets and making adjustments as required.
  • Budget Control: Perform tight control over individual budgets, ensuring compliance with financial constraints.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Regularly report on budget consumption and provide forecasts, financial reports to backers, and ad-hoc financial analyses.
  • Annual Budget Preparation: Work with management to prepare the organization’s annual budget.
  • Monthly Reporting: Provide monthly management reports and key financial indicators.
  • Collaboration with Accounting: Work with the accounting team on cost reviews and align the budgetary database with organizational needs.
  • Audit Participation: Support internal and external audits, ensuring backup functions within the controlling team.

PROFIL

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (Bac+3) in Finance/Controlling / Audit
  • 5 years’ experience in Finance, ideally in the funded research field
  • Proven experience in scientific research project budgeting and financial forecasting
  • Perfect understanding of ERP mechanisms to ensure reliable data extraction and interpretation
  • Advanced level in Excel
  • Knowledge of EU research funding programs (The Luxembourg National Research Fund; EU projects) and their audit requirements is considered as a plus.
  • Knowledge of Odoo ERP is an advantage
  • Ability to translate financial information towards non-financial colleagues
  • Strong sense of responsibility, ability to meet deadlines, work independently and as part of a team, and prioritize effectively. Capacity to set priorities to manage important workload.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently
  • Excellent written and spoken knowledge of French and English, Luxembourgish is considered as an asset
