Job description

As a technical and scientific domain manager, you will consolidate and develop the analytical domain of food contact materials and develop a new domain of consumer products analysis. To do this, you will :

• Optimise existing methods and develop new single- and multi-residue methods in food contact materials (kitchenware, plastic and cardboard packaging, micro/nanoparticles, etc.) using techniques like ASE, UPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-FID, etc.
• Validation of new methods according to the European Reference Laboratory Guidelines, for ISO 17025 accreditation
• Organise and structure the daily analytical work in the laboratory
• Organise the participation in inter-laboratory tests in the areas under responsibility
• Participate in the administration of the laboratory in association with the head of unit and other technical managers (management of the workload and work programs, communication with the laboratory’s customers, participation in the review of applications, etc.)
• Supervise the analytical work in the laboratory and validate the analytical results
• Participate in the daily maintenance and fault finding of analytical instruments (HPLC-FLD, UPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, etc.)
• Develop strategies for the management of reference materials
• Participate in the laboratory networking (European and national reference laboratories)
• Participate in European projects (PARC)
• Collaborate with other laboratories and administrations active in official control and food safety in Luxembourg
• Develop and manage research activities, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals
• Participate in training and conferences at national and European level

Profile

The candidate must have:

• A Master or PhD in chemistry, chemistry-physics, biochemistry or a related field, with specialisation in analytical techniques (ideally HPLC, UPLC, GC, MS and MS/MS)
• Experience in the analysis of organic molecules in complex matrices
• Knowledge of industrial processes in plastics and/or cardboard manufacturing as well as knowledge of nanomaterials
• A track record of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at scientific conferences
• Experience with quality control and accreditation processes, knowledge of ISO 17025 will be considered an asset
• Experience with daily maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instruments (HPLC-FLD, UPLC-MS/MS, etc.)
• Good general computer skills (Microsoft Office and chromatograph control software such as OpenLab, Empower, Chemstation, Masslynx, Masshunter, etc.)
• Experience with a LIMS will be considered an asset
• Organisational skills, ability to manage people, flexibility
• A perfect fluency in English and good knowledge of French (spoken and written)
