The collaborators of this service are mandated to make their genetic expertise available at the exclusive request of the judicial authorities and to give their expert opinion at court.

The forensic genetics service

The service provides Expert assessments and opinions based on the tools of molecular biology in order to grant objective evidence interpretation during crime scene investigations, forensic investigations and at court: DNA profiling of biological stains (evidence), DNA profiling of individuals, DNA profiling for databasing (SPJ), Determination of the nature of a sample (blood, semen, seminal fluid, saliva, urine), Kinship tests, Genetic identification of unknown deceased persons. The purpose of forensic genetic analyses in In crime scene investigations is to investigate whether DNA evidence does or does not support the hypothesis that the biological material comes from a particular person.

The level of quality, integrity, technical accuracy and availability meets the needs of members of the judiciary.  The service works in accordance with the laws, standards and guidelines in force in the field. Every year, we successfully participate in several international proficiency tests. The service also seeks to consolidate its international relations by participating regularly in work groups of various institutions and networks such as the GEDNAP, ENFSI and ISFG. These international associations aim to promote scientific knowledge in the fields of medico-legal and forensic genetics.

The service guarantees its impartiality and independence by complying with procedures and professional ethics and by following all rules of professional and official confidentiality. The laboratory has no monitoring, control or inspection tasks but acts as an expert or consultant.

The Forensic Genetics service is accredited according to ISO 17025 v2017 (OLAS 1/027).
