The  Laboratoire national de santé (Public institution) is recruiting a full-time laboratory technician (ATM de laboratoire) (BAC/BAC+2) Ref°265 (m/f) on a one-year fixed-term contract.

 

ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTE

 

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. As a multidisciplinary institute, the LNS consists of four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection. In addition, the LNS is also hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange since 2013.

The mission of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases and to ensure the role of a national control or reference laboratory as well as to carry out forensic tasks. The institution also contributes to the development, harmonization and promotion of technical laboratory methods in close collaboration with local and international analytical laboratories. Within the scope of its responsibilities, the LNS is also leading research and teaching activities in collaboration with partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

With its modern infrastructure in line with the recent evolution of medical and analytical sciences, the LNS is an ambitious laboratory with innovative projects that increase its expertise in public health.

 

ABOUT THE “ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE AND HUMAN BIOLOGICAL MONITORING” UNIT

 

The Unit “Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring” has strong expertise in indoor pollution, occupational hygiene and human biomonitoring. For indoor pollution, the Unit is in charge of the laboratory analyses for the national monitoring programs in Luxembourg. These monitoring programs are carried out in patients’ houses, schools, and in public building.   The laboratory analyses include the evaluation of chemical and microbiological exposures. The laboratory is accredited ISO 17025 for occupational and environmental monitoring activities, and is seeking accreditation ISO 15189 for human biomonitoring.

 

RESPONSABILITIES

 

  • Work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Technical Coordinator, who will report to the Head of Unit;
  • Receive, encode and process samples;
  • Carry out analytical laboratory work for the analysis of organic pollutants and/or their metabolites in samples taken for human biological monitoring (using ICP-MS, GC-MS, LC-MS);
  • Participating in the optimisation of existing methods and the development of new methods under the supervision of the technical manager(s);
  • Participate in the validation of methods developed in accordance with the requirements of the quality system;
  • Participate in the daily maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment;
  •  Participate in daily quality control activities (document management, drafting of procedures, calibration, metrology, etc.);
  • Participate in the management of stocks and purchases of consumables.

PROFILE

 

Job specific skills :

  • Diploma BAC / BAC +2/ BAC +3, giving access to the authorization to practice the profession of ATM de laboratoire in Luxembourg, with strong experience in analysis based on mass spectrometry;
  • Knowledge of other analytical techniques is considered an asset;
  • More than 2 years’ experience in the analysis of organic compounds, preferably in the field of occupational and environmental health (human biological samples);
  • Experience of working in an accredited laboratory (ISO 17025 and/or 15189);
  • Fluency in French (oral and written). Good command of English. Fluency in German and/or Luxembourgish will be considered an asset.
