Type of contract: Full-time and determined duration contract (CDD)

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (public institution) is recruiting a full-time molecular biologist / geneticist ( (m/f) on a fixed-term contract until January 31, 2025 for the National Center of Genetics.

About the Laboratoire national de santé

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. As a multidisciplinary institute, the LNS consists of four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection. In addition, the LNS is also hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange since 2013.

The mission of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases and to ensure the role of a national control or reference laboratory as well as to carry out forensic tasks. The institution also contributes to the development, harmonization and promotion of technical laboratory methods in close collaboration with local and international analytical laboratories. Within the scope of its responsibilities, the LNS is also leading research and teaching activities in collaboration with partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

With its modern infrastructure in line with the recent evolution of medical and analytical sciences, the LNS is an ambitious laboratory with innovative projects that increase its expertise in public health.

The NCG at the LNS has approximately 45 employees and is subdivided into three services:

  • Clinical Genetics Service
  • Hemato-Oncogentics-Cytogenetics Service
  • Molecular Diagnostics Service

The Molecular Diagnostics Service of the National Center of Genetics carries out molecular genetic testing for inherited and acquired diseases. The service offers molecular genetic testing for different clinical applications including but not limited to haematology (e.g. disorders of haemoglobin and inherited thrombophilia), hereditary cancer syndromes, cystic fibrosis, developmental disorders, rare diseases, noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and molecular pathology of solid tumours. To that end, the service uses different molecular genetic methods such as PCR based assays, MLPA, aCGH, Next-Generation Sequencing and bioinformatics (including panel and whole genome sequencing).

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced and motivated scientist to join our dynamic team in the Molecular Diagnostics Service to perform the following tasks:

  • Participation in the outsourcing of samples received at the National Center of Genetics
  • Participation in sample reception, preanalytical and documentation processes
  • Participation in the establishment of new molecular genetic diagnostic procedures
  • Participation in NGS data analysis in the context of rare genetic disorders and comprehensive genomic profiling of tumors
  • Active support of quality management and the accreditation process, including the creation of SOPs

The above list is not exhaustive, and additional tasks may be added according to service’s needs.

  • Minimum Master’s degree (BAC+5) in biological sciences, molecular biology, genetics or bioinformatics.
  • Ideally, prior working experience in a diagnostic laboratory setting preferentially in human genetics
  • Pronounced interest in human genetics, genetic diseases and in learning new analytical methods in this field
