The Laboratoire national de santé  is recruiting a Medical biologist (m/f) in a permanent full-time position (40h/week) for the Medical Biology Department.

 

About the National Health Laboratory

The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. As a multidisciplinary institute, the LNS consists of four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection. In addition, the LNS is also hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange since 2013.

The mission of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases and to ensure the role of a national control or reference laboratory as well as to carry out forensic tasks. The institution also contributes to the development, harmonization and promotion of technical laboratory methods in close collaboration with local and international analytical laboratories. Within the scope of its responsibilities, the LNS is also leading research and teaching activities in collaboration with partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

With its modern infrastructure in line with the recent evolution of medical and analytical sciences, the LNS is an ambitious laboratory with innovative projects that increase its expertise in public health.

 

About the Medical Biology Department

The medical biology department of the Laboratoire national de santé offers a wide range of activities concerning prevention, screening, diagnosis, prognosis, follow-up and associated consultancy services in the following areas:

  • Public health program for neonatal screening of all children born in Luxembourg,
  • Exploration of inborn errors of metabolism,
  • Therapeutic and pharmacological follow-up,
  • Preventing toxicity of certain chemotherapy protocols by phenotyping,
  • Search for drugs, narcotics, medications, xenobiotics in the context of an evocative clinical-biological picture (severe intoxication, chemical submission, withdrawal, etc.),
  • Immediate or delayed cell-mediated, humoral or mixed hypersensitivity,
  • Morpho-constitutional characterization of urinary, biliary and salivary lithiasis;
  • Specialized hormonology and biochemistry

 

The department is also in charge of centralized sample reception (reception, registration, qualification and distribution of medical requests for all LNS departments with clinical biology activities) and venous sampling for patients with prescriptions.

Main activities

  • Supervise and manage a team of laboratory technicians: technical and scientific support
  • Manage the laboratory’s day-to-day operations in the various areas of activity
  • Develop, validate and implement new procedures and techniques
  • Communicating with clinicians: advice on prescribing and interpreting results;
  • Validate results, check and sign analysis reports to authorize their distribution to the prescriber;
  • Participate effectively in Quality management and monitoring (Department accredited to ISO 15189:2012);
  • Participate in the organization and development strategy of activities within the various sectors.
  • Research and development: development and clinical studies of new biomarkers

Profile required

  • You are a physician or pharmacist biologist (M/F) and have completed the legal formalities required to obtain recognition as a clinical biologist.
  • You have had general training in clinical biology, but have an affinity for biochemistry and/or toxicology.
  • Experience in mass spectrometry is an asset
  • You demonstrate initiative and open-mindedness.
  • You have good interpersonal skills (internal and external communication, ability to work as part of a team).
  • You attach great importance to the day-to-day service provided to doctors and patients.
  • You are able to coach and motivate employees
  • You are rigorous and have good organizational skills
  • You have a perfect command of French and a good command of English.
