As of 19 January 2022, 420 284 sequences assigned to Omicron have been reported to the GISAID platform worldwide. In Europe, Omicron represented 15.3% by mid-December and 67.1% by late-December, replacing previous variants at an unprecedented speed. In Luxembourg, the Omicron variant was assigned to 1453 as of week 01/2022, and represented 89.6% of the national specimens collected in that week.
