Dr. Sc. Stefania Oliverio, toxicologist in the forensic toxicology service of the LNS, received the Young Scientists Best Oral Award for the year 2020 by TIAFT, the international association of forensic toxicologists.

Due to the tense health situation, the annual TIAFT congress could not take place last year and it was decided to postpone it. This year, it was finally held in a virtual format from 1st to 3th February with a programme of 80 oral presentations by international scientists with expertise in forensic toxicology. At the end of the 3-day congress, the winners of the TIAFT awards for the years 2020 and 2021 were announced.

In the Young Scientists Awards category, Dr. Sc. Stefania Oliverio received the TIAFT Young Scientists Best Oral Award for the year 2020 for her presentation “Total Blood Carbon Monoxide (TBCO) as alternative biomarker for CO poisoning diagnosis: application in clinical and forensic settings” given on the opening day of the congress. My work in research has been recognised and this award will not only make these scientific advances known but also increase the visibility of the LNS on an international level”, said Dr. Sc. Stefania Oliverio.
