Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring accredited to ISO 17025:2017
2022 04-07

The Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring service of the Department of Health Protection of the LNS successfully obtained accreditation according to ISO 17025:2017 by the Office Luxembourgeois d’Accréditation et de Surveillance (OLAS) on 21 February 2022.

This new accreditation, which reinforces the position of the LNS as a centre of excellence and expertise in the service of health, covers the analysis of the characterisation of organic pollutants in indoor air and indoor dust in private dwellings and includes the following compounds: aldehydes, volatile organic compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Dr Radu Duca, head of the service, emphasises “This is the formal recognition of our scientific rigor and the quality of our services related to the environmental and occupational health for Luxembourgish population. This achievement is a team achievement, since a quality system implementation requires active involvement and dedication of every single member of the unit for a high quality work. With this occasion, I would like to thank all my colleagues for their teamwork spirit and professionalism. As Hellen Keller was saying: “Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much”. Thank you all.”

The ISO 17025:2017 standard is the international reference for testing laboratories. It establishes the general requirements of competence, impartiality and consistency of the laboratory’s activities, thus guaranteeing the quality of the techniques used, the analyses performed and the reliability of the results produced.

The LNS would like to thank the Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring team who worked to obtain this accreditation with rigor and team spirit.
