Throughout past months, food hygiene has had a lot of echos in the European media. It was recently the case in Luxembourg when the conference “La Sécurité Dans Mon Assiette” was held on the 9^th of June.

The aim of the event is to explain to the consumers the conduct of official controls and how they are taking place from “farm to table” here in the Grand Duchy.

For this 10th edition, the theme of the conference was “Diversity of official controls in the food chain”.  Catarina Martins, technical manager of the LNS food microbiology laboratory, presented the role of her laboratory in the control of hygiene in establishments of the food sector.  In particular, she explained how a classical microbiological analysis is carried out. At the end of the presentations, Catarina Martins was available at her stand equipped with a microscope inviting the public to observe slides containing bacteria detected in food. A way to engage in an exchange with visitors, who as consumers want to be reassured about the quality of the food they eat.
